MHFA Refresher — half-day course
A half-day top-up for qualified Mental Health First Aiders and Champions — renews knowledge, updates you on best practice and keeps your skills current.
Just as physical first aiders retrain regularly, MHFA England recommends mental health first aiders refresh their skills every three years. The half-day Refresher renews your practical skills, updates you on evolving best practice and support services, and gives you space to reflect on your experience in the role.
If your organisation trained a cohort of first aiders more than three years ago, a group Refresher is an efficient way to bring everyone back up to date at once.

Frequently asked questions
What happens if I don’t refresh after three years?
Your original certificate is not revoked, but your knowledge dates quickly — services change and best practice evolves. Employers maintaining a formal first-aider network generally build the three-year refresh into their programme.
